I want
Lesley Scoble | 5th November 2020
out—
This is hell!
I yell
and
I rant!
Well,
I can’t!
I must play by the rules
(with exception of schools)
And—
Stay home
and work
if I can,
Stick to the plans;
Wash hands,
Cover face,
Make space

The second lockdown
It is November the fifth, 2020 and England is embarking on another lockdown for a month until the second of December, when it is planned we shall return back into the ‘Three Tier System’ (the three tier system means that different areas of the country are categorised by levels in severity of the local infection rates and measures and restrictions are adjusted accordingly).
This second lockdown is set to last 28 days in a UK government attempt to curb the exponential rising infection rate in England. To alleviate strain on emergency services and avoid overwhelming the NHS and to save lives.
Remember remember the fifth of November
November the fifth, traditionally, is when we in England celebrate the demise of Guy (aka Guido) Fawkes by burning his effigy on the top of a bonfire. But, today we have more to think about now than setting off fireworks and celebrating the burning of the historical traitor. Even though, Guy Fawkes wasn’t burned at the stake! He defied justice at the scaffold by leaping off it and breaking his neck (now don’t tell me you don’t learn something by reading my blog! 😆 but of course, you knew that important piece of historical information didn’t you?).
And here’s more interesting info about the plague and Bonfire Night!
It’s interesting to note that the Catholic plot to blow up Parliament in 1605 was delayed due to the Plague. Well, my plans to ignite gunpowder rockets and Catherine wheels and light up pretty little sparklers has been cancelled this year because of today’s Covid-19 plague! (but, I wouldn’t ignite a bonfire no matter what! as our beloved hedgehogs have enough extinction-making causes to contend with, without the dangers of bonfires burning them up as they hibernate snug beneath ‘a soon to be lit’ bonfire whilst they sleep). If you are burning bonfires please make a very careful check that there are no precious hedgehogs slumbering inside it before putting it to flame.
Old English Folk Song
Because I have remembered November fifth ever since childhood—I shall remember it this year just by quoting the old traditional folk song.
Remember, remember, the fifth of November
Old English Folk Song
Gunpowder treason and plot
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, ‘Twas his intent
To blow up the King and the Parliament
Three score barrels of powder below
Poor old England to overthrow
By God’s providence he was catch’d
Holler boys, holler boys, let the bells ring
Holler boys, holler boys, God save the King!
Keep safe and stay at home if you can and save lives
