Where does the inspiration to write poetry come from?

Where does the inspiration to write poetry come from? A walk down a city street Listening to the rhythm of my feet A full moon glowing red When I’m lying in my bed The whistle of a train Choo-chooing a refrain The smile upon his handsome face When mine’s a scowl an’ grimace The howl of the wind On a wild and windy night The flap of the wing When a bird takes flight The growing of a tiny seed Into a mighty tree (or weed) The dancing of a waltz Beneath a starlit sky The wondering how, the why and ifs The raging seas The height of cliffs The soughing of a gentle breeze The waving branches of the trees The lap of water in a calm blue lake The rising of the dawn And a yawn to be awake The dreaming of a unicorn A piece of birthday cake A glass of wine or two Can inspire a dream and rhyme The ticking of a clock And the passing of the time A flower in full bloom The waft of perfume in a room The humming of a tune The silver of the moon A night out on the town The rustle of taffeta of my gown A meeting up with friends in conversation, yarns and laughter and the why’s and wherefores of the morning after The roar of applause The clapping sound of rain All in all, Let’s be plain, When all is said and done, When it comes down to it, Set everything apart From whence does inspiration come? It comes deep down from the well at the bottom of my heart Lesley Clare Scoble, July 2023

Lesley,
Were we writing poetry together? I scheduled my post for another hour or so from now, because I wrote it in the wee hours of the morning. It seems we were on the same wavelength.🙏🏼❤️🙃

Many places we must know dear poet.
“Where does the inspiration to write poetry come from?”
Life is our experience. Somewhere in time. Someone wrote. We must live, we must suffer and we must know what we need. Maybe we can be lucky. We can find kindness. Today in my old age. I know kindness is true love. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

The small almost unnoticable things and the huge events… as long as they touch deep into the heart, they can become poetry.
Wonderful!

Lesley, the crazy thing to me about this poem is that despite how long it is, every single line hits home and draws me in further. Just wonderful!
