Lilian at d’Verse Poets invites us to write a Quadrille poem. A poem comprising an exact 44 word count (sans title) and is to include the word Fall or a form of the word. No synonyms for the word.
Under the Weeping Willow
Under the weeping willow Fallen leaves drift and make A floating carpet on the lake Behold! My eyes perceive Autumn afloat Like a boat in the breeze Adrift on the tide, side by side Shifting, sighing, undulating slow. Gold on the surface and below. Lesley Scoble, October 2023
Thank you, Lilian and d’Verse Poets for this inspiring prompt. Please may I ask you to hold a gin and tonic for me behind the bar? Cheers!

“Autumn afloat…adrift on the tide…shifting…sighing…undulating…” I love the movement in this poem, and I enjoyed the accompanying video.

Thank you, Heather,
So glad you enjoyed the video. I shot it on a stroll through London’s Regent’s park. Under the willow tree I watched the lapping of the water and the floating leaves… and the waterfowl (out of shot). It was beautiful 🧡🍂🧡

Love this, Lesley! And weeping willows are my favorite tree. Sinatra sings a fab tune about them. 🤎

I must listen to Sinatra’s song! xx

I enjoyed this poem, Lesley. Not sure I’ve ever read anyone writing about leaves moving on a body of water, and it has a contemplative quality to it. You are likely aware it’s a common image for meditating, with leaves representing thoughts. I like that one. 🙏

So glad you enjoyed it, Steve,
I didn’t know about the meditating. That must have been what I was doing though. I watched the leaves and water for a while…🧡 it was lovely.

Wow, this is so evocative of how I look at leaves and water, memories too, but the depth of that last line peaks something more, wonderful.
