I wrote this rhyme SANTA’S DRESSED IN YELLOW back in 1998 when my boys Daniel and Ben were small.
It is Christmas Eve, and my sons are in their bed bunks, excited and in deep conversation talking about Santa Claus. They want to stay awake so they can see him.
Santa’s Dressed in Yellow
Daniel: Tonight, I am not going to sleep
, One eye open I’m going to keep,
to watch and wait for a stout fellow,
to come down the chimney dressed in yellow.
Ben: Don’t be silly or a fool!
Because like me you go to school.
The jolly fellow who comes down the flue
We all know he’s dressed in blue.
Daniel: This is the Christmas season
Have you forgot your reason?
(Ben’s voice from beneath the bunk does utter)
Ben: What are you, some kind of nutter?
You’ve been told twice, if not once!
What are you, some kind of dunce?
This Santa that you have never seen,
Always goes around in green.
Daniel: I don’t mind what colour he wears!
I’m going to wait for a creak on the stairs,
the sound of bells jingling on the roof
I won’t sleep to tell the truth
I can’t sleep although I’m tired,
I’ve got to find out how Santa’s attired.
I peep out from my warm bed,
and I do not lie it must be said
I saw him—and he is dressed in RED!

Ben wasn’t far from the truth when he says Santa “Always goes around in green.” In the 16th century they depicted him wearing green.

Merry Christmas to all my new and old friends! If you don’t celebrate Christmas, I wish you a very merry whatever you are doing!
I wish you health and happiness in the New Year of 2024.
