Tapestry Poem
Shady Deals Behind Closed Doors is a Tapestry Poem woven with two nine-line verses written by two poets. The title is the inspiration for the poems. In this case, poet Matt Snyder came up with the intriguing title.
Matt’s original nine-line verse
You entice me
You prey on my compulsion for a fix
Sometimes I need it, real bad
I salivate at the thought
I cower in the corner
As the black dog howls
Sometimes for naught
I ingurgitate euphoria
I regurgitate guilt

My original nine-line verse

It is my pleasure to present to you the complete tapestry poem by Matt Snyder and myself.
~ Shady Deals Behind Closed Doors ~
Her footsteps sound loud in the dark cobbled alleyway.
You entice me…
Sometimes I need it, real bad!
She draws the collar of her coat up close, and wonders what she’ll say,
You prey on my compulsion for a fix.
Sometimes for naught
Her face hides in the shadow of the wide brim of her hat,
As the black dog howls
I cower in the corner.
At the door number nine, her fist knocks a rat-a-tat-tat.
I ingurgitate euphoria
She says in a whisper, The hen laid ten eggs this week in the park.
Yes? My slimy voice slides through the hatch in the door in the dark.
There is a long pause. Then a bolt is undone.
I regurgitate guilt.
She flinches and fears ‘tis the bolt of a gun.
The door opens with a slow creak… she is too scared to speak.
I salivate at the thought…
