He Dug a Yellow Pond

The child dug his pond with his own bare hands,
To create a pool in Haiti’s lands.
He dug and dug with his trusty spade,
and dug all summer to get it made.
Now it’s dug he feels a proud young fellow,
He’s puzzled though why the water is yellow?
Can’t you tell? said a friend of his,
it’s the colour of sand,
that’s what it is.

I wrote my poem, He dug a Yellow Pond, in response to Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #275.
The prompt’s image is from Plur on Unsplash.
The photographer says: “In this capture there is a child who is in a pond he built with his hands by a river (in Haiti) during the summer holidays to have fun and create joyful memories.”
I should also like to link my poem to #Weekly Prompts Colour Challenge Yellow
