Jam Doughnut

I want a jam doughnut,
But I can’t eat that!
Why ever not?
It’ll make me fat!
It’s covered in sugar,
And is a doughy bun,
And oozes dollops of strawberry jam
That dribbles down your chin…
To my chagrin,
I can’t eat one!
Oh, what a sin!
I want a jam doughnut with my tea,
But I can’t eat that!
Why ever not?
It’s not good for me.
It’ll make me fat!
What rot! What a to do!
I cannot eat one!
Gimme two.

I wrote my poem, Jam Doughnut, for Punam’s prompt. Punam (paensunplugged) is the exceptional Poet-of-the-Week for the W3 Poetry Prompt #118. Her challenge is to write a poem in any form about food.
THANKS
Thank you, Punam, for your delicious prompt. Jam doughnuts are a weakness of mine!
My gratitude, as always, to David, The Skeptics Kaddish, for hosting his encouraging and inspiring poetry prompts.
