I was thrilled when Suzanne agreed to write a tapestry poem with me. I came up with the title. We then wrote our individual nine-lines and wove them together to make our first collaborative tapestry poem, Sand Between Your Toes.
Sand Between Your Toes

My nine-line poem
It’s time to be carefree on the beach,
Drink a coconut and eat a peach,
Leave some footprints in the sand,
And dance along the shore,
Go build a castle by the sea,
Come with me,
Forget your weary sighs and woes,
Open the sunshine door,
and get some sand between your toes.

Suzanne’s nine-line poem
My exposed and tender soles,
trip across hot sliding sands
curving, carving to the shore
to meet the cooling sea
I feel the course silt tickle,
watch the trickling ripples flow
as ebbing waves lap up the grains
where nature soothes my soul
standing within swirls

Today, on World Play in the Sand Day, it delights me to present to you our debut tapestry collaboration by Suzanne Brace and me.

Sand Between Your Toes
by
Suzanne Brace and Lesley Scoble
It’s time to be carefree on the beach;
where nature soothes my soul…
Drink a coconut and eat a peach,
watch the trickling ripples flow…
…as ebbing waves lap up the grains,
feel the coarse silt tickle…
Go build a castle… by the sea.
Come with me…
…curving, carving on the shore…
leave some footprints in the sand
and dance along for evermore!
Open the sunshine door…
trip across hot sliding sands,
to meet the cooling sea,
on exposed and tender soles.
Forget your weary sighs and woes,
stand within soft swirls,
and get some sand between your toes.

Thank you, Suzanne (Brazanne Muse) for the privilege and fun of writing with you. I hope we can do it again soon. It’s your turn to come up with the title!

Where did my idea for the title, Sand Between Your Toes, come from?
A very long time ago, my brother was a member of The New Edition, on the Seaside Special TV series, and they produced a hit titled Get a Little Sand Between Your Toes. Listen to it crackle here on YouTube (or click the image)
