I wrote, Where Shadows Swim, in response to Colleen’s, Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge No. 16, Full Moon Magic. The prompt was to write a tanka puente using a quote, and I chose one attributed to Anton Chekov: “Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.”
Where Shadows Swim
The moon was awake
bright, round-eyed and watchful
beaming down below
where on a zephyr’s soft breath
blue leaves dance through boughs
~Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass~
bats’ echoes ripple
in tranquil air whispering
secret messages
flitting over silver pools
where their moonlit shadows swim

My poem “Where Shadows Swim” is now a song!
