Ange, aka AJ, and poetisatinta, is the crowned Poet of the the Week for the W3 Poetry Prompt #173.

We’re invited to write an ekphrastic poem—a piece inspired by a work of art. Ange has selected two masterpieces to spark our creativity: Blue Nude II by Henri Matisse (1952) and Abstraction Blue by Georgia O’Keeffe (1927).
The challenge is to choose one of these two artworks for inspiration and write a poem of no more than 15 lines. As we craft our pieces, we are required to incorporate the word “blue.” (Oops! 😬 I meant to include the word blue—but it turned into cerulean. Rules are made to be broken, are they not‽ )

I chose the Georgia O’Keeffe painting as my inspiration.

Abstraction Blue, Georgia O’Keeffe, 1927

Last week’s prompt left me lingering in a neologistic mood, so I coined the word vertizontal. In O’Keeffe’s painting, there’s a vertical spine: a fold, path, a boat’s wake, or perhaps the edge of something. I decided it was the central “vertical sinewed flowerings flow.” And now you know. 😁

I hope you enjoy this musical interpretation inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s painting Abstraction Blue. 🎶

    1. Yes, Matt. I do. Otherwise you don’t own it—also you get better choices of voices (does that rhyme?).

  4. Lesley! This song is so beautiful- I was waiting to see the Phantom rise out of the mist! I love your new word and will try to use it in conversation as it seems an apt descriptor for many things- that seem to be moving forward (or up) and are really just riding the horizon…. Once again you have outdone yourself!

Wheee! I invented a new word now in use! Did you know Shakespeare invented over 1,000 new words? xxx

      1. I am a very noncompliant sleeper. This happens to me all the time- not the wake up and make ridicules comments part- but the stay awake just because sleep is not currently an option part! heheheh And I did not know that about Shakespear, I have heard of a few – eyeball and addiction stand out- but had no idea he was so prolific in that sense.

      2. I only have to create 9 hundred and 99 more words to catch him up.
Sleep is an irritating and elusive character sometimes. zzzzzz

  8. Your lyrics combine natural images with a spiritual, almost ethereal tone, in which nature becomes a metaphor for life and inner beauty.

May you have a weekend full of calm, joy, and moments that make you smile. May each moment be a little pause to enjoy what you love and recharge your batteries. 🌿☀️
