The weather is so hot that it’s too hot to do anything except write a very short poem. This photo of a door inspired it. If you don’t like it, blame the blasted fifth heatwave we’re enduring here in London.

  4. Top notch as always. I’d didn’t see a tree. I saw three martinis.

    Three martinis mark the door.
    A welcome, I suppose.
If they’re empty, knock for more.
    If they’re full, anything goes.

      1. They’re hanging from their bases, in the slotted racks above the bar, occasionally clinking. Strictly, they should be in the freezer but I’m on my second and strictly has left the building. I’m contemplating.

Perfect martini? Dry martini? Never a wet. Sometimes a 50:50. Occasionally a dirty.

        Decisions, decisions.

I take another mouthful to lubricate the process.

        The glasses chime.

        😎😁

        I do enjoy a martini!

  6. Funny how the mind turns to winter when the heat starts going up!! I was just talking to a neighbor who mentioned that she wished it would get cold soon!! I couldn’t believe she said that out loud – now we are all cursed! I’m going to brace for a horribly hard winter!!

    1. When the heat goes up my mind turns to winter or migrating north. The weathers seem to be getting more extreme, alas.

  7. Leslie, sweet poem! has it cooled off a bit yet in London? I hope it has! It is pretty cool here in Ireland at the moment, well, we have about 23 degrees, but it is comfortable, humid though, and hard to sleep at night!
