I wrote my waltz wave poem WATERFALL in response to #TankaTuesday Poetry Challenge. The challenge is to write a poem using Terry’s photo as an inspiration.
Photographer Terri says: “This is a photo of Nine Mile Falls, after which our little community is named. I captured this last March when the water district let out the water of the Spokane River to create Lake Spokane. When you drive by, the mist from the falls hits the windshield enough to use the wiper blades. In certain light, it really looks this green.”

Waterfall
Gush-
ing rush-
ing
waters
torrential
over-
flow-
-ing streams
filling full
viridescent
cups of dreams
pouring
love
potions
down
cascad-
-ing clouds of
roaring
em-
-erald
haze.

Photo Credit Terri Webster Schrandt Sound Free sound library edited in Bandlab The Waltz Wave Poetry Form The waltz wave is a single stanza poem of 19 lines, with each line having a set number of syllables. The syllabic pattern is: 1/2/1/2/3/2/1/2/3/4/3/2/1/2/3/2/1/2/1. Leo Waltz, of the independent art and writing magazine, Sol, created the new poetry pattern. I suppose one might say he put his ‘Art and Sol’ into it (forgive me, but I enjoy the occasional pun).
