(the Power of the Sun)

INTI KAWSAY

Contemplate
The powerful gaze
of the sun
from the past
conceiving the secret maze
and long shadows cast

Adventure
through the great god’s eye
gold tollgate
of the soul
to the celestial highway
named Quapaq p’unchay

Guardian
Achachilas are
Spin doctors
of the court
they weave their net for Inti
and silken spidery sport
(could this be the world’s first Inti net?)

Proud soldier
Inti Sentinels
On their guard
About face
And By the right march! forward
To defend his grace

The woven
Threads of mystery
Entwining
History
In the deepest memory
of immortal time

Behold ye!
Oh, Inti Kawsay
Stalwart eye
of the sun
Inca lord of the Quechuan
Thou art thy sublime

Lesley Scoble, July 2023

NOTES
Quapaq p’unchay
Quapaq translates to ‘the great, or mighty’, and p’unchay translates to ‘journey or path’.

Inti
Inti is the Quechua for Sun God. Inti was a significant deity in Inca mythology.

Kawsay (pronounced een-tee kow-sigh) is Quechuan for The Power of the Sun. The word means power or life force.

Achachilas
Achachilas is the Quechua name for spiders.

  2. You’re the best, Lesley! Educational and entertaining to boot!

There’s one thing I’m confused about though – don’t your stanzas have 5 lines, instead of 6? Is this a different version of the shadorma?

    Much love,
    David

    1. Oops 😬 Is that why it took me so long to write? I knew there was something wrong with it. There was the first line missing? 😂 No wonder it never felt right. What a twerp I am! Numbskull!

Hmmm, what do I do now? I’m done with spiders and Inti Kawsay. Two weeks I ruminated over this shadorma. 😭 Two weeks!

This is a new creation of shadorma (forget the garland shadorma). This is called the twit shadorma.

Thank you for enlightening me in your most charming way, David. What would I do without you?

      1. Lesley ~ it may be fate that you shared it for this week’s W3 prompt – because this week, there’s no form required – only a particular theme 😀

don’t worry about it – I was just curious because it looked a bit different than what I’m used to ❤
