Melissa, host for the d’Verse Poets, FOLDING INTO AUTUMN, invites us to write a Fold poem.
What is a Fold poem? The fold poetry form is the creation of poet Gillena Cox.
THE FOLD POETIC FORM The poem comprises eleven lines. A phrase is included in the first line, which is repeated in lines five and eleven. The rhyme of the first line is alternated throughout. GUIDELINES 1. 11 lines 2. The end phrase of Line 1 repeats at Lines 5 and 11 3. The rhyme of line 1 continues through in every other line 4. There MUST be a reference to nature and how it affects you, the poet” * A substantial list of autumn words to use in your poem was supplied with the prompt. I fear I may only have used one (or at the most two) of the words on the list. I used the word fall as a verb. Does this save me from disqualification?
The Last Gold Leaf

The last gold leaf hangs by a thread clinging on till the end it is going to fall upon the golden bed on the mulch of the woodland floor It waves in an autumn breeze but hangs by a thread It knows it is doomed It knows it will fall, it is already dead The changing summer light is dimmed The march of winter’s inexorable tread It glints gold in the fading light The last leaf is brave, but hangs by a thread Lesley Scoble, September 2023
I wrote a haiku about the last leaf way back in 2021. I used this unpublished (until now) poem as my inspiration for my first attempt at the (unknown to me till now) Fold poetic form.
