Drumroll please.
My poetry prompt is to write about THE SUN in free verse. In answer to my prompt, I wrote my poem, SOLAR STORM.
I thank all the poets who will write to this prompt. I look forward to reading the poems very much. It will be a difficult task to be the appointed judge to choose the poem and next week’s POTW, but I shall strive to do my best.
Solar Storm
SOLAR STORM The blast of heat from the blazing sun Can hit you like a flame from a welder’s gun The power of this almighty orb Can singe sear burn and absorb the Dark All darkness of space gone in a spark of a sunbeam’s light, With hungry, long solar stormed tongues licking away the night. Without the broiling cauldron sphere, we wouldn’t be here Without the twelve-mile atmosphere, we couldn’t be here There’d be no plants, no sea, no life-form When the sun blows a raged solar storm Make sure your iPhone and laptops are on full charge or plugged in a protected surge plug in the garage The wrath of the wind from an angry sun can leave our technology all undone. The heat is so intense There is no guard against There is no fence No strong defence (the Ray Bans won’t hack it) Lesley Scoble, October 2023
