Poet D. Avery is this week’s Poet of the Week for the W3 Weekly We’ave Poetry Prompt. She invites us to write a septolet that refers to something that is held.
Deanna’s prompt guidelines Write a “Septolet” that refers to something that is held, something that one might hold. Septolet? The Septolet is a poem consisting of seven lines containing fourteen words with a break anywhere in between the two verses. Both verses deal with the same thought and create a picture.
I wrote my first ever Septolet I HOLD YOUR LOVE inspired by this prompt. Then another one, I HOLD MY BREATH… and another one, A GLASS OF WINE… and yet another, STRAP HANGING. Is writing four septolets breaking the rules?
I Hold My Breath
I hold On to Hope and My Breath that Rescue Comes Before my death
A Glass of Wine
A glass of wine In the hand Is better than A Loud brass band
Strap Hanging
I hold the strap swaying Back and forth No seats available On the tube.
I Hold Your Love
I hold your love in my hand A broken heart is all that’s left.
