The prompt for this weekโs Melissaโs Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #247 is to write a flash fiction piece, or a poem inspired by the image. There are no style or word limits.
I am glad there are no word limits, because I have flu/covid/cold. A quick limerick is all I can manage as I sit, mopping my fevered brow, demolishing boxes of paper tissues and downing sore throat potions.
Seasons Greetings from THE HAPPY REINDEER. Enjoy!
The Happy Reindeer

There is a happy reindeer with a sleigh,
She pulls it and pulls it all day. Wahay!
She loves the cold snow,
And what do you know!
Her name is not Rudolf but, Faye, okay?

Did you knowโฆ
Santaโs reindeers are female. Male reindeers lose their antlers in the winter at the end of the mating season.
The females keep a thin antler. Therefore, Rudolf is not Rudolf but Faye. Okay?

๐คฏhow ignorant I was! Calling her a he all this time. I had no idea male reindeer shed their antlers. Thank you, oh wise one.
I hope you feel better quickly!โค๏ธ

Lesley, your limerick had me chuckling! The tale of Faye, the happy reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh, is both witty and charming. And the twist about Rudolf being Faye? Genius! Your explanation about the gender dynamics of reindeers adds that extra dash of humor and trivia. Love the festive vibes with a side of reindeer facts โ you nailed it! ๐๐ฆโจ

๐ณ But ‘Faye the Rednosed Reindeer’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it, Lesley! ๐คฃ
I loved your limerick about Faye, though… and the fact that the reindeer aren’t male. Actually, Donner, Comet and Blitzen do sound like female names, thinking about it…!

haha ๐ Thanks, Tom! Only female reindeer are clever enough to fly.
