The Lighthouse Beacon

I stand close to the edge,
One more step would see my doom,
And close the door
On my lone
And empty room.
Bereft, the mist obscures my sight,
You left too soon—
So long ago we kissed
Beneath the bright moon,
And sang our song,
One step down
To jagged rocks,
And the pounding anguished sea,
Would drown
My sorrow…
One last step
From winter’s shore,
To see no more tomorrow…
The lighthouse
Beacon scans round and gleams.
I wipe a tear,
And step back, away
From so near the sheer cliff edge,
And from my darkened dreams.
Another day is here,
The brave light beams
Swing round and round,
To save me from my fear,
The foghorn blows
Its long low moaning sound,
But the horizon now is clear.
