I wrote Sixing and Sevening in response to the W3 Poetry Prompt #131. Where Melissa Lemay is the talented Poet of the Week (Read her winning poem here). Her challenge is to write a poem creating verbs from a list of words. Click below for the full details and guidelines.

  2. How fun this was! Thank you for the link to Melissa’s poem–I enjoyed them both. Is Sixing and Sevening a British thing? I do not recall ever hearing that before.

    1. Thanks, Suzassippi! I’m so happy you enjoyed the poems. No, it ain’t a British thing — I made the verbs up 😄 xxx

    2. Thank you for asking the question, Suzassippi. The phrase at sixes and sevens is a British thing. A 500 year old British thing! I’ve now added a little bit of the history of its origin to my notes. 🙏xx

      1. Mostly. I’m still taking it easy today. I had to pick up Ila from school. She was not feeling well. She waited until I got her…so she could throw up in the car.😩

  6. Lesley, this is such a delightful poem! I love how you’ve transformed those numbers into verbs—“sixing and sevening” is so creative and fun! You really capture that feeling of joyful chaos.
