I wrote my poem The Watermelon Sky for the Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #326—an invitation to dream, sparked by a  Getty Images on Unsplash. Inspired by its whimsy, from a sky where fruit might fall, I also turned the piece into a song!

I was rather taken by the book cover Copilot created for my poem. Artists and illustrators are definitely out of a job! This would have taken me hours to create—Copilot whipped it up in two minutes!

  4. It is a poem that awakens the imagination with humor, tenderness and color. It transforms the everyday (rain, seeds) into a spectacle of fruity fantasy, full of life and play. At its core, there is a clear invitation: to let oneself be surprised, to look at the world with new eyes, and to dance even when it rains watermelon from the sky.

  8. I love this! I first saw the picture and read the poem accompanying it. I was pleasantly surprised to see the longer version. And the song! Wonderful.

    I especially enjoyed these lines:
“But in a juicy rainy bliss,
    A splashy, fruity paradise!”

“Juice that trickled down the hills
    In waterfalls and overspills.
Ruby streams ran far and wide—
Kids slurped with straws in countryside!”
