I wrote my poem The Unchained Bear in response to Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #327 to write something inspired by the photo below from Ryan Grewell on Unsplash.

  2. Lesley, this poem feels like the plot of an old Disney movie—’Bongo’ from ‘Fun and Fancy Free’ (1947)! The lines “they’d goad me with pain / to prance to a beat” mirror his story so closely. I love how you turn that past control into present freedom (like Bongo’s)—“I swirl in a pool / and dance like a fool / because I’m free” is such a joyful release.

Here is the audio of ‘Bongo’:

    Much love,

    1. What sheer delight listening to Bongo! 🐻 You’re right! They stole my script 😂 Thank you so much for sharing the link, David. I love the character Lumpjaw! ♥️
Does your daughter listen to Bongo? Maybe I saw the film in my distant past… I don’t recall it—but I know the character Jiminy Cricket. 🦗

      1. The pool won’t be available until July 4th – but I’ll be dancing bare foot (bare everything) in the shower!

    1. Thanks, Nigel! Go check it out! (they should give me a commission 😂) I’ve had so much fun creating the songs. It used to be that one needed a lot of money and time to get a song put together (I know from experience—and still didn’t get what I wanted). With Suno and some carefully chosen tags—and a bish, bash, bosh, you have a hit on your hands! I can’t wait to hear yours! 💕🎶

  7. What a great post I love the poem how it calls out the cruelty and makes me cheer for the bears freedom to choose to do ballet- and then top all that off with a yacht-rock ballad? – a sensory delight!
