I wrote my first-ever nonet for the Colleen Chesebro’s Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge #19, where Willow invites us to explore the form and use synonyms for “the state of the world” or “our lives”—according to our own interpretation.

If, like me, you’re new to the nonet form, you can discover the four types here.

Last Breath

by
the time
you read this
in a moment
when all is quiet
when the earth holds a breath
when a bird takes to the air
when your dreams ride on a soft wind
another forest will disappear

  2. Oh! Lesley this is so heartbreakingly beautiful because it is true….our forests are disappearing.

    1. Yes you did! Without you there would be not be a nonet from me! It would not exist! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It means a lot to me as I was shy and unsure posting it. 🙏💕 I owe you.

    1. Thank you so much, K. 🙏 It was a quickie in my Procreate app. I’ve got a new digital brush! But I really must get my stacks of watercolour paper out of the cupboard and do one the old fashioned way.😁
Sadly, the sobering thought is too real. L xx

  4. Stupendous sentiment. What are we? Crazy! If trees produced WiFi 🛜 we’d be caring for them more. But no— trees only help us breathe better. And that’s not as vital as 🛜. How did we get here? A crazy state of affairs 🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤦🏽‍♀️ Somebody help us heal this lunacy!
Thanks for sharing. You’re a natural noneteer. A genius, perhaps. Yes

    1. Wow thank you so much for using the genius word! You are now my friend for life. I love the idea of being a noneteer! fabulous compliment. Special thanks as I felt timid with regard to this form.🙏💕

I know! There is so much wrong that it all seems impossible for us to sort. My heart breaks when I think about it all—the list is too long. Who is there that will help us with this lunacy? Good question, Selma. 🤷‍♀️
