Winter Bullfinch
inch by inch
the cold creeps in
bullfinch feathers
fluff out
by and by
he’s perched up high
on denuded twigs of
grey
row on row
red berries
grace the bush
like scarlet pearls
glinting
in the dark
of winter’s
day
the bird
puffs up
his scarlet robe
