Artie Carmenzind is Poet-of-the-Week for the W3 Prompt #215, and his prompt is to use either (or both) of these lines from the poem Drifting by Mary Oliver as a starting point for your  poem:

  1. “my delicious walk in the rain”
  2. “what it is that music is trying to say”

No need to quote them directly. Let them guide you toward a memory, a moment of wonder, an encounter with weather, music, or something else that seemed to speak in a language beyond words.

See where the drift takes you.

  2. Lesley, I so, so love how your puddles become “little pools of thought,” turning an ordinary country lane into a place where the sky and imagination meet! 🌦️

  3. This poem is very visceral. I loved the ‘little pools of thought’ I will be pondering that at my next puddle.

  6. Lesley this is a vivid recollection of a walk I took in the rain! We were walking on a farmer’s tractor path between fields and we had to zigzag to avoid the potholes and ruts where the water had pooled! It was imperative we avoided the puddles because there was no way to tell how deep they were – and we discovered that they were VERY deep (over the tops of our hiking boots!)

    1. Wow! Goodness knows where you might have ended up — some secret underwater cavern where the puddle fairies live.
