I’ve written an appendage for my Puente poem. Because the form demands just two stanzas of equal length with the one-liner bridge in between, I couldn’t include it in my Puente. Here it is in its own right as a solitary verse.

Lesley lives in the City of London Square Mile. An artist, actor and sculptor (her first ceramic sculpture won the V&A inspired by… Award). Scenic artist & book illustrator, playwright (her musical play, Rapscallion performed in inner city schools and theatre school); TV dancer; Animator and illustrator for TV production. Set up Pinecone Studios Ltd and IIMSI Ltd drama and filmmaking workshops in London – producing award-winning films made by children.

    1. Thankee, I couldn’t fit the two stories into just one stanza. One of ‘em had to go. 🙏💕

      1. Indeed you can’t. He rated them highly, as did Tom Petty. Two good judges 😊

  5. Poignant still very magnificent.. contrasts adjective that I prefer to use to pay my respect for the piece. Lovely metaphors used, intro of the perfect song and oil painting act like cherry on top of the cake. Appendage to Puente left no guessing for the readers though the impact of the poem was no way less even without it. Splendiferous take. Sincere thanks, Lesley. 👏👏🌹

  10. Lesley, oh my! The imagery in your poem is poignant, especially the contrast between the carefree moments at the beach with your mother and the stark, clinical atmosphere of the hospital! Excellent <3

  11. Poignant, yet real…all the emotions and thoughts that come to play when saying goodbye. Fantastic write. I’m glad you included the appendage. It gives me the sense that your Mother would have been pleased that her departure coincided with the closing time bell.
