In The Golden Shovel poetry form, each line of the poem takes one word from an original quote to use it as the last word in each line of the new poem.
The lines and rhyme scheme of the new poem can vary. The end word of each line must be from the original chosen quote.
Robbie invites us to choose a quote by any famous or well-known politician, artist, writer, or poet.
The quote I chose for my golden shovel poem is, “Just take this step…The horizon will look after itself.” From the beautiful book, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy.
In the misty, misty, mist, just
before the dawn, take
a twisty, twisty, twist, on this
long and winding road. Step…
by step by helpful step, softly go to the
unknown far horizon.
Down the dale and up the hill—you will get there, yes you will.
See the world with big round eyes—looking, looking, look
over here and there, wherefore, before and after.
With a tear or two and laughter the world is yours, itself.
