By his Side

The wanderer waits with his back to the wall,
The scrawl on his sign says,
“I am hungry,
God bless you all.”
The empty cup by his side begs to be filled.
His little dog stays close,
Sad eyes looking up at you… hopeful.
Will you give?
Fill the cup?
And yet, the old man and his dog wait still.

Time lapse video (20 secs) of my sketching of the drawing, By his Side
I wrote my poem, By his Side, for Punam’s prompt. Punam (paensunplugged) is the exceptional Poet-of-the-Week for the W3 poetry Prompt #118. Her challenge is to write a food related poem in any form about food.
THANKS
Thank you, Punam, for your delicious prompt. I wanted to write about jam doughnuts, but I wrote about the lack and want of food instead!
My gratitude, as always, to David, The Skeptics Kaddish, for hosting his encouraging and inspiring poetry prompts.
