Last night, I had insomnia. Not a wink of sleep could I get!
While unable to sleep, I wrote my pawful poem, Yellow Dogs Can Read, and drew the pawful drawing to illustrate it! The inspiration for both comes from Melissa’s Fandango Flash Fiction Challenge #294 to write something inspired by the photo below.
The prompt’s image depicts a yellow dog wearing eyeglasses and lying on a bed, with his front paws resting on the pages of an open book. In the background, we see a white wall with two windows, a white curtain draped over one of them.
Yellow Dogs Can Read
Yellow dogs can read, you know,
But their eyesight’s rather paw,
My favourite tail of all
Is The Hound of the Baskervilles
by Arthur Conan Doyle,
I prefer a scary read
To playing with my ball—
Or burying a bone in soil.
Is that strange?
Nothing beats
A dog-eared book,
Or a library book exchange,
Right now, I’m reading this,
The Nightmare before Christmas,
with Jack Skellington
And his ghost dog Zero,
I love a paperback—
Telling a tail
About a canine hero.
I’d like to end this rhyme,
But look, I haven’t got the time.
It’s amazing how time passes,
It just goes poof!
When absorbed inside a book…
Woof! I bark,
Have you seen my glasses?
I must go now for my walk,
You know what owners are,
They walk you round the block,
Then off we go by car.
