          grief’s weight quiets, yet lingers—
          relief or silence?

ml:     snow falls into its own
           abyss without a sound

ls:      within dusk’s soft shroud—
           o’er stillness of the graveyard
               a barn owl swoops   unheard

db:     shadows scatter from talons
            spirits dissolve into night.

ml:      not a creature
           stirring,  stirring words
           on a blank page

ls:      marble oak galls in the rain
           await a scribe’s alchemy
