I wrote my poem, Mirror, Mirror, (and Merlot), in response to the W3 Prompt #156, where the Poet of the Week challenges us to compose an acrostic poem using the word TRANSFORMATION.
Carol Anne’s prompt guidelines
This week, write an acrostic poem using the word transformation. In an acrostic, the first letter of each line spells out a word or phrase—vertically down the left margin.
Each line should relate to the theme of transformation in some way: personal, spiritual, political, emotional, seasonal—whatever resonates with you. There’s no set meter or rhyme scheme, but thoughtful structure is always welcome.
Mirror, Mirror, (and Merlot)
by Lesley Scoble

Take a trip to the hairdressers
Red tint will cover the grey
A brand new style, and the world will say—
“No way!” And “Hey, look at you!” “Who knew how
Stunning you look!” Toss the magazine away—
Forget the book! You are fabulous and divine!
Or… that can’t be me in the mirror‽ (I’m off the wagon, deluded by wine)
Regretting spending so much at the beauty salon
Metamorphosis needs more than a hairdo
At least it does for me (boo hoo)
To be honest, beauty as you get older
Is in the eye of the beholder—
Only a state of mind and Instagram views
Nothing to do with red tinted hairdos.
