I wrote my first-ever huitain in response to the W3 Prompt #166 where murisposis is the crowned poet-of-the-week. Muri aka Val invites us to write a huitain on the theme: ‘Seeds’. But wait—what’s a huitain? I’ve never heard of it! It’s a French poetry form dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
Here are Muri / Val’s guidelines for the prompt:
• Theme: Seeds
• Form: Huitain
• One 8-line stanza
• Rhyme scheme: ababbcbc
• Syllabic count: 8 or 10 syllables per line
Seed of Doubt

the thought was in my head, without a doubt
It was in there festering loud and clear
how on earth do I get it out‽
did someone I know slip it in my beer?
faster than anyone can shed a tear—
faster than anyone can blink an eye—
with a simple whispered word in my ear
the doubtful seed was planted on the sly
