My poem The Waterfall Fell was written in response to Sadje’s #Whatdoyousee #295 prompt, inspired by Karsten Winegeart’s striking image of a waterfall. I hope you enjoy it—there’s a song version at the foot of the poem that I’m especially excited to share!
The Waterfall Fell

The waterfall fell—
plummeting
cascading
down
carving crevices
through grooves
of silent moss
it fell
over the ridge—
swirling crashes
crashing
down
unstoppable
torrents
gushing
in a rush
under a footbridge,
as if—
hurrying
in its
descending
to reach
the never
ending…
down
down
down
through a dell
between
trees clawing
to vertical cliff
travelling
at splashing speed—
it fell
down
down
down
plunging in a mountainous roar—
pounding
down
in spume
and
swell
well,
well,
well!
I’ve never seen a waterfall
like this before!
