  1. My simple rule right now Leslie, as an audio production and VO guy (possibly having my work and my voice replicated) is to personify AI first

    “Hey Bill”

    “Hey Steve”

“Now how about you fuck off Bill”

“Ok Steve” before I then tell it to to continue to fuck off, to hit the road, hard, with gravel in it’s knees wishing it had an AI Mom to kiss said knees to make it feel better while applying AI bandaids and AI kisses.

AI is not really an innovation right now, however much it could be, however much it is presented to be, it is simply a boon shortcut and corner cutter, the next evolution in automation to save money, and make us mere humans even more expendable.

Though it may have many applications that can assist, many applications that can be truly helpful greed will not allow that if given the in, greed will always corrupt, that is NOT what it is going to be used for. Its first application is always going to be attempts to replace that cumbersome people thing, especially those that deserve to be paid for or even just acknowledged and commended for their original work, thus the dystopian futures we have seen depicted far too often.

    “Hey Bill?”

    “Yeah Steve?”

    “Will you stand with me?”

“Sure, if you are the one programming me from the nuts and numbers, sure”

  2. Well said and such an important topic to discuss, especially in an online community such as wordpress. I am sorry that your artistic integrity has been questioned. I, for one, am in awe of what your talent.

  3. As a journal editor and a poet, this is a troubling issue. Many of the apps we use as artists and editors are pure AI. The question is, at what point is AI doing most of or all of the work? It can be almost impossible to tell.

For example, I’ve received submissions that were originally written in a language other than English, and then translated using AI. If I run that submission through an AI checker, the checker reports that the submission is 100% AI. But is it?

On the other hand, I use Grammarly to check submissions for grammar and punctuation. Grammarly is AI, but it saves me time and reduces editorial errors/oversights.

When I post my poetry on my blog, I love to use AI-generated images (and I do credit the image generator). I am not a skilled artist, nor can I always find the image I want from Pexels (or any other image site free of AI-generated images (I hope)).

I’m not advocating for trusting everything AI produces. AI, like any other tool, can be misused to make money. That’s a slap in the face to anyone who pours body and soul into a creative piece. It can ruin reputations, and destroy online communities that are carefully built over time.

    1. Nolcha, thank you so much for your feedback. 🙏
AI is an amazing tool—and it’s here to stay.
But I find myself wondering: is there any point in being an artist anymore?
What’s the point of spending hours on a piece when AI can produce stunning images in the blink of an eye?
What’s the point when an artist’s work is met with suspicion and subjected to tests? 🤷‍♀️ I wouldn’t mind if the tests were accurate. 💕

      1. Is there any point in being an artist anymore? I say yes.

(And I say this after reading an article about how subjects read an original poem, and an AI-generated poem, and they liked the AI-generated poems better.)

Creating is a source of great joy, and of great angst. It’s who we are. AI can’t take that away from us.

While feedback and kudos are great, we can’t depend on them, nor should we trust them. Fame is gratifying but brief. If that’s all we live for, we’re sure to be disappointed.

I wish testing could be more objective.

We need to have a thick skin when dealing with suspicions. It’s the same skin we wear to deal with rejection and other obstacles.

Your work is impressive, Lesley. Keep that in your back pocket, and continue to create!

  4. I am sorry that your integrity is being questioned Lesley, there should be no doubt in your abilities or your work – you are a very talented artist and poet, so keep doing what you do.

I can say, as a poet, I am grateful you introduced me to the AI music site, I find in some instances it enhances my work when it is put to music. It has also encouraged me to write lyrics which is new for me – so THANK YOU ❤️

    1. Suno is incredible, isn’t it‽
I’m so happy we share the same passion for songwriting!
It’s incredibly motivating and inspiring to hear your words set to music 🎶
That kind of magic was never possible before—unless you had an orchestra on standby 😁 Thank YOU Ange.🙏

  5. My big problem with all AI is that it uses so much energy and pollutes the large swaths of land it needs for its energy centers. People don’t seem to understand that even casual use of AI adds to this growing problem. I’m more concerned about that than people pirating or questioning my work.
And of course the political ramifications of people believing fake images, or as in the case of our government, claiming that actual images are fake.
I was no prodigy, and no one has ever asked me if I really did anything I’ve produced image-wise. That would definitely be annoying. Interestingly , though, my writing was questioned several times in high school and college (way way way before AI–who did they think wrote it?) (K)

    1. I expect they meant it as a compliment about your writing, Kerfe.
We’ll need AI to enable Mankind to evacuate the planet when Earth’s all used up (I hope I’m joking).

      1. I hope so too.
Well I had to prove it or get a failing grade…I think that my verbal skills are so poor they could not believe I had different skills for writing. It’s been a lifelong issue.

  6. Lesley, I’m sorry that your creativity is called into question. I empathize with you because some people have asked me if I wrote my poems and other writing. I understand how you feel and it is not a good feeling. Even though some people may question your artistry and creativity, keep going! Keep creating! I think you are very talented. AI has some good use, but I feel that it takes the creative process away if people use it to write articles, etc. The whole point, in my opinion is to use your own thoughts, words and talent. Yes, I also agree that when we use free images, etc that the creator should always receive credit and be cited for their work. I apologize for the long response. Keep creating! Have a good day😊

  7. One poet accused another poet of using AI to write her poems, and it ruined their friendship forever. I believe people should always reveal it on their work when they use A.I. That’s only fair.

    1. It’s so unsettling to hear someone accused of presenting AI-written poetry as their own—it feels like a charge of dishonesty, and I can imagine how painful that must be.
I agree, credit should always be given where it’s due.

      1. Sometimes the truth is unsettling. There are authors, poets, plenty of people who do use AI in their published materials. In these cases, your query of “what’s the point” is more applicable. What’s the point in being a writer or an artist if you do 1% of the work and let AI do the rest. Honesty is always the best policy.

  8. I can tell your poetry isn’t AI-generated by reading it. Duh. It’s clearly your unique voice. Anyone with half a brain who reads, can suss out AI-generated text. Don’t take people’s stupidity or ineptness personally.❤️
