My third attempt at writing a Cherita poem was inspired by the theme Missing Roadsign, set by Poet-of-the-Week Nolcha Fox for this week’s W3 Poetry Prompt #194.

The Cherita (a Malay word meaning tale or story) is a six-line poem:
a single opening line begins the story,
a two-line stanza builds the middle,
and a final three-line stanza brings it to a close.

I hope you enjoy the tale—and its accompanying audio.

My thanks to Nolcha for introducing me to the Cherita poetry form.
My thanks, as always, to David, The Skeptics Kaddish, for his constant poetic motivation and encouragement.
And my whole hearted thanks to you, the reader, for spending time with my poem.

    1. Haha! And all I wanted to do was write about some poor bloke who got lost because someone nicked the road sign.

      2. 6b Pencil. I also like using an 8b soft pencil. They give nice dark tones.

  8. Lesley — this really works for me. It feels disorienting in a very familiar way, and the lack of signs keeps coming back in a way that really lands for me.

  9. The GPS fails first, then the names of things.

    Streetlights dim in sequence.

    Windows stay dark.

The road narrows to what we can carry.

    Behind us, direction is withdrawn.

    Ahead, only hunger.

Excellent poem, Lesley. Another deserving a response.
