I wrote TheDog in response to Whimzygizmo’s prompt for dVerse Poets’ Quadrille #248: “this ones gone to the dogs,” to write a Quadrille Poem of exactly 44 words.
Well, I reckon I’m now in the doghouse—my poem contains a mere 43 words. Try as I might, I can’t add another word to it.
I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
The Dog

the dog
sleeps
snores
turns
rolls on his back
scratches
stretches
snores
dreams
of treats
walks in the park
and leafy streets
chasing balls
sniffing
trees
other dogs
runs
along seashores
open spaces
free
a loyal
friend
to her
then
home again
snores
