Ange / Poetisatinta is our Poet‑of‑the‑Week for W3 Prompt #212, inviting us to capture a dramatic moment — in just a handful of lines.

The rules are simple:

  • 5–8 lines
  • all one‑syllable words
  • one multi‑syllable word, placed last

It’s a prompt that aligns with my current leaning toward minimalism.
I hope you enjoy the poem. There’s always a moment of magic and drama in a good game of football.

You can probably tell I’m an Arsenal fan. Here’s a photo of me leaving the stadium after the Arsenal v Bayern Munich match 26th November 2025, where we won 3–1.

  5. Lesley, I love how “we hold our breath / score! / then one more!” made me feel like I was right there in the crowd cheering with everyone… and I’m not even a sports fan! ⚽

      2. No, alas. Not yet… there’s a street in Whitechapel that I shall enjoy browsing and fantasising in…xx I’d love a couple of swathes of silken glamour. I’ll send you a pic when I do treat myself. 💛
For now, our weather has returned to cool and wet.

  8. Though I don’t follow soccer and don’t know much about it, I learned a lot from your poem. The concise language translates easily and as has been said above, it put me right there.

  11. Huge congrats to the Arsenal. It has been long overdue. As a united man myself, anything that knocks City down a peg makes me smile. It is a good look for the Arsenal, though. Truly happy for the Gunners.

    Lovely poem, Lesley
