Who I Once Was

I couldn’t decide which song interpretation — Rap or Folk — suited the poem best, so I’ve published both renditions. I’d love to know your preference, so I’ve placed a little clap‑o‑meter beneath each.

  4. I taught a class of teens and we played a board game that had questions and you had to answer the question to advance around the board to win… His questions was “If you could be any age, what would it be and why?” Others had had similar questions and they all wanted to be 21 or older so they could drive, make money, drink. go to clubs etc. He answered that he wanted to be 5 years old again. That was the last time he’d been carefree. He didn’t have to worry about school, food, having responsibilities… that stuck with me.

      1. Hehe! I wanted to be 16. Then I revised it to 21, then 25, followed by 21, with a regression back to 10. Currently I’m happy to be closing in on 70 with no desire to turn back the clock….

  6. I see now that you are a woman and it sounds like a male voice. Who is singing it and who did the arrangement and music? It all comes together so well.

And you, Ms Lesley find my elation so much so that I had to tell someone. Hope it works for all. I’m been sad not to be able to engage with many. Lovely poem, Lesley.
