𝘈𝘯 𝘕𝘏𝘚 𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘙𝘢𝘱

There are too many old people
needing spare parts,
legs, knees, hips,
new hearts.

On the NHS—
a year for a consult,
another year for an op.
Need a new leg?
You’ll just have to hop.

Dates moved forward,
dates moved back,
if delay is long enough
you might snuff.

There are too many old people
needing spare parts—
legs, knees, hips.
Where to start?

If you wait
for the NHS
it might be too late—


Go private.

    Oh this is so painfully true!!! I had an NHS Physio referral. 2 online questionnaires completed revealed I needed to be passed to Musculoskeletal – so a telephone appointment was made where she discussed exercises over the phone and told me I had to do them right of they wouldn’t work.!! IF I needed more help in a month to give them a call and ask to see someone …. A whole 6 weeks to get that far… Called private physio, seen within days, but want me to go back to GP for more scans … I can’t just see GP – it has to be run via the online triage, where they text you back … 🙈

      The system is broken. I had eight consultation appointments moved between October and August of the following year. Eventually, the physiotherapist at my GP surgery said there was nothing more he could do for me. At last, I got my NHS consultation, only to be told that the waiting list for the operation was another year…

        Up and down, thanks, Suzanne. I enthusiastically walked too far yesterday and am paying for it a bit today. At least it’s a getting-better pain as opposed to a getting-worse pain.

        Do try not to run before you can walk though …. Yes a getting better pain is far easier to tolerate – but still there fur a reason to listen to … remember the tortoise wins..! 💞

    I have a poet friend who is older and worried because the service is not really helping him. Appalling – yes, go private.

      It is in a bad way. And I’m in a ‘fast-track’ area, Paul. Other areas have to wait two years.

        It is beginning but he’s having to spend a lot on getting things sorted, and any help is so expensive.
