Audio — Spare Parts 🎵

A rap-style commentary

Spare Parts | Lyrics and Sound Design©️Lesley Scoble | Performed by AI Singer

Notes:
My rap poem is inspired by the growing demand for joint replacements and the long waiting times faced by many NHS patients.

The NHS waiting list remains one of the most visible challenges facing modern healthcare.

  2. Oh this is so painfully true!!! I had an NHS Physio referral. 2 online questionnaires completed revealed I needed to be passed to Musculoskeletal – so a telephone appointment was made where she discussed exercises over the phone and told me I had to do them right of they wouldn’t work.!! IF I needed more help in a month to give them a call and ask to see someone …. A whole 6 weeks to get that far… Called private physio, seen within days, but want me to go back to GP for more scans … I can’t just see GP – it has to be run via the online triage, where they text you back … 🙈

    1. The system is broken. I had eight consultation appointments moved between October and August of the following year. Eventually, the physiotherapist at my GP surgery said there was nothing more he could do for me. At last, I got my NHS consultation, only to be told that the waiting list for the operation was another year…

      2. Up and down, thanks, Suzanne. I enthusiastically walked too far yesterday and am paying for it a bit today. At least it’s a getting-better pain as opposed to a getting-worse pain.

      3. Do try not to run before you can walk though …. Yes a getting better pain is far easier to tolerate – but still there fur a reason to listen to … remember the tortoise wins..! 💞

      4. Poco a poco as the Spanish say. I must try to become the tortoise. 🐢💗

  3. I have a poet friend who is older and worried because the service is not really helping him. Appalling – yes, go private.

    1. It is in a bad way. And I’m in a ‘fast-track’ area, Paul. Other areas have to wait two years.

      1. It is beginning but he’s having to spend a lot on getting things sorted, and any help is so expensive.

  7. Hi Lesley, sad to hear you are maybe waiting for a spare part. My daughter works in Mount Vernon Hospital as a theatre administrator. She has to book the operations ensuring that the right spare part is ordered (left hip or right? etc) also make sure the surgeon is booked and other staff. She often passes by the theatre and she says it sounds like a blacksmiths shop with the banging of metal hip joints into place. Glad you see the funny side of life like I do. I helps us deal with what life throws at us. Guess you won’t be tap dancing for a while yet. I still go to my class on Tuesdays, but a lot of the ladies are suffering with dodgy knees and hips. Best Wishes Antonia x

    1. Like a blacksmiths shop 😂
Toni, I had a bilateral hip op on August 19th. I was at the end of the road so had to go private. Couldn’t wait for the NHS. Would have been too late.
Book me in for that tap class! I can’t wait to tap dance as soon as I am able.
      Much love,
      Lesley 🤗❤️

      1. Great, glad to hear that you are now the bionic woman!

Is hatch end to far for you it’s on the overground line. nad there are several buses that pass us at the Harrow Art Centre. Do you remember Rita Tuffey from the students? I had lunch with her yesterday at ZAZA’s in Pinner. She used to come to tap with me but now she has back trouble and goes to physio on Tues instead.
