The Poet of the Week for the W3 Weekly Poetry Prompt is Matt Snyder. He invites us to write an ekphrastic poem inspired by his drawing of his cat. I love his artwork of a black and white cat gaping his bright red mouth in a yawn (or is it a laugh, a guffaw, or is he saying, Hey! Where’s my dinner?). The image is delightful and humorous and begs to be immortalised in a Limerick. Yes, you’ve guessed it! In response to the artwork, I wrote my poem MATT’S CAT as a limerick.
Matt’s Cat
MATT’S CAT
Matt’s cat sat on the mat with a yawn
He does this all the time in the morn
Opens wide his red mouth
To the north and the south
And done it ever since he was born
