Ten Times Ten

The child wipes the chalkboard clean;
He rubs out mistakes,
The ones he makes,
In a chalk dust puff
He must work it out
What does it mean?
Try again,
and remember
Ten times ten
it’s a big number…
Is a hundred enough?
How hard can it be?
To count,
One two three…
and multiply again,
Ten times ten.
That’s when,
he knows,
as he grows,
he’ll learn much more…
He picks up the chalk
writes a sum,
then pauses… um…
What is ten times ten plus four?
